DIY Window Cleaning- Crucial Dos & Don’ts to Remember

Most commercial window cleaners suggest washing your windows 2-3 times in a year. With autumn already started throughout Australia, there are more chances of your windows getting dirty.

Now the choice which you have to make is whether to DIY or hire professional window cleaners to do it on your behalf. And although, it is always advised to opt for the latter, here are some dos and don’ts which you should keep in mind if you choose the former!
Read closely!

The Key Dos:-

  • Use a soft microfiber cloth and lots of clean water to rinse.
  • Clean it in sections- like soaping, rinsing and drying (one at a time). Soaping all the windows together will allow it to dry up (without washing) by the time to reach the last section and leave behind soap residues on its surface.
  • Use a sturdy ladder and pads to prevent scratches on the window surface- especially if the section is a bit elevated.
  • Prior to applying soap and rinsing with water; you need to remove the existing dust, debris. Also, wipe the sunscreens prior to cleaning. Or else, they will get dirty again quickly.
Special Note: Experts of residential/commercial window cleaning in Sydney recommend always using mineral-free distilled water to rinse. Using tap water (consisting of hard minerals) can leave behind streaky deposits on the surface.

Moving Over To The Don’ts:

  • Refrain from using a scraper as much as possible. But if you must, only use them when the windows consist of stubborn stains and marks such as bird droppings or sticker residue.
  • Avoid using harsh/abrasive cleaning detergents and tools when cleaning as they can leave behind scratches on the glass surface.
  • Don’t use newspaper to dry the window surface. The reason being, they consist of chemicals which could leave behind ugly ink smudges on the glass surface. Instead, look to use a microfiber cloth.
  • Never use a towel as they tend to leave behind tiny particles which could make your window surface appear drab and dirty.
  • Avoid using excessive soap. Experts performing window cleaning across Eastern suburbs say that it can attract dust, dirt and other filth quickly and make it appear dirty again in a short span.
Special Note: Never clean your windows during the afternoon when the sun’s rays are at its peak. The sun’s rays will dry out the windows and increase your task. If you are to do it, best get it done either at dawn or early morning when the sun’s rays are not that harsh.

Of Course, There Is Always An Easier Way To Clean Your Windows.

You can call up quality window cleaning specialists serving your region and schedule an appointment whenever you see fit. They will always use quality detergents, industry-approved tools and will leave your windows looking sparkling clean.
Think about it. It only takes one call!
